For Aloo Tikki:

  • Boiled potatoes (medium-sized): 4
  • Green chili (finely chopped): 1
  • Ginger (grated): 1 tsp
  • Red chili powder: 1/2 tsp
  • Chaat masala: 1 tsp
  • Cumin powder: 1/2 tsp
  • Fresh coriander (finely chopped): 2 tbsp
  • Salt: to taste
  • Cornflour or breadcrumbs: 2–3 tbsp (for binding)
  • Oil: for shallow frying

Making process

Step 1: Prepare the Mixture:

  1. Peel and mash the boiled potatoes in a large bowl.
  2. Add chopped green chili, ginger, red chili powder, chaat masala, cumin powder, salt, and coriander.
  3. Mix in cornflour or breadcrumbs until the mixture is firm and non-sticky.

Step 2: Shape the Tikkis:

  1. Divide the mixture into equal portions and shape them into flat, round patties.

Step 3: Shallow Fry:

  1. Heat oil in a pan on medium flame.
  2. Place the tikkis and cook until both sides are golden brown and crisp.
  3. Remove and place on paper towels to absorb excess oil.

Step 4: Serve:

  1. Serve hot with tamarind chutney, green chutney, or yogurt for a chaat-style twist.
