For the Manchurian Balls:

  • Grated cabbage: 1 cup
  • Grated carrot: 1/2 cup
  • Chopped capsicum: 1/4 cup
  • Chopped spring onions: 1/4 cup
  • All-purpose flour (maida): 2 tbsp
  • Cornflour: 2 tbsp
  • Salt & pepper: to taste
  • Oil: for deep frying

For the Manchurian Gravy:

  • Oil: 1 tbsp
  • Garlic (finely chopped): 1 tbsp
  • Ginger (finely chopped): 1 tbsp
  • Green chilies (finely chopped): 1–2
  • Spring onion (chopped): 1/4 cup
  • Soy sauce: 1 tbsp
  • Chili sauce: 1 tbsp
  • Tomato ketchup: 2 tbsp
  • Vinegar: 1 tsp
  • Cornflour slurry (1 tsp cornflour + 2 tbsp water): for thickening
  • Water: 1/2 to 3/4 cup (for gravy)

Making process

Step 1: Prepare Manchurian Balls:

  1. In a bowl, mix grated veggies with flour, cornflour, salt, and pepper.
  2. Shape into small balls. Deep fry on medium heat until golden brown. Set aside.

Step 2: Prepare the Gravy:

  1. Heat oil in a pan. Sauté garlic, ginger, and green chilies for a minute.
  2. Add chopped spring onions and stir-fry for another minute.
  3. Add soy sauce, chili sauce, tomato ketchup, and vinegar. Mix well.
  4. Add water and bring to a boil. Stir in cornflour slurry to thicken.

Step 3: Combine & Serve:

  1. Add fried Manchurian balls to the hot gravy and mix gently.
  2. Garnish with chopped spring onion greens and serve hot with fried rice or noodles.
