  • 1 cup sabudana (tapioca pearls)
  • 1 medium potato (peeled and diced)
  • 1/4 cup roasted peanuts (coarsely ground)
  • 1–2 green chilies (chopped)
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 tablespoon ghee or oil
  • 6–8 curry leaves (optional)
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 teaspoon sugar (optional)
  • Fresh coriander leaves (chopped, for garnish)
  • Lemon juice (to taste)

Making process

Step 1: Soak the Sabudana

  1. Rinse sabudana thoroughly in water until the water runs clear.
  2. Soak in just enough water to cover them for 4–6 hours or overnight.
  3. After soaking, drain any excess water and fluff the sabudana with a fork.

Step 2: Prepare the Ingredients

  1. Boil, peel, and dice the potato.
  2. Coarsely crush the roasted peanuts and keep them ready.

Step 3: Cook the Khichdi

  1. Heat ghee or oil in a pan.
  2. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
  3. Add green chilies and curry leaves, sauté for a few seconds.
  4. Add diced potatoes and sauté for 2–3 minutes.
  5. Add sabudana, peanuts, salt, and sugar. Mix gently.
  6. Cook on low flame for 5–7 minutes, stirring occasionally until sabudana turns translucent.

Step 4: Serve

  1. Turn off the heat. Add lemon juice and chopped coriander leaves.
  2. Serve hot, optionally with yogurt or chutney.
